Sedation

We are one of only a few practices in Ireland to offer this service to our adult patients. Transforming dental treatment for many nervous patients to a relaxed and comfortable experience.

For these patients a sedative can be used to put them at ease during dental treatment. We use both oral sedation and intravenous sedation to help reduce anxiety in our patients.

ORAL SEDATION can produce light to moderate relaxation. It usually is a tablet taken in the dental surgery 45 mins before the dental procedure starts. Recovery time is variable (big patient variations) and the patient needs an escort to bring them home.

INTRAVENOUS SEDATION (IV SEDATION): After receiving the sedative through a scratch on the back of the hand or the arm the patient will feel drowsy and relaxed. The sedative is delivered intravenously so the patient will feel the effect much sooner. Intravenous sedation gives a much more predictable level of sedation as the dentist can adjust the level of sedation needed during the procedure. Most people find this a very pleasant and acceptable way of receiving treatment.
